RSG Hails NIMASA On Job Creation
The Rivers State Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Hon Samuel Eyiba, has described the partnership between the Rivers State Government and the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Ssfety Agency (NIMASA) on job creation as immeasurable.
Hon Eyiba made the remark when a delegation from NIMASA visited him in his office, recently.
He noted that the training of youths to acquire skills is one function of NIMASA which complements the state government’s programme on job creation for the people.
Going by the enormous benefits of the programme, Hon Eyiba promised to sell the idea of the training to the local governments to key into it in order to provide job opportunities for the people at the grassroot.
According to him, his office is always open to receive the agency for further interactions on the matter.
Earlier, the Director General of NIMASA, Mr Patrick Akpobolokeni represented by the zonal coordinator, Rivers State branch, Mr Olayemi Abass informed the commissioner that NIMASA undertakes the training and building of human capacity as Seafarers.
The Seafarers, he explained would work on board merchant ships both locally and internationally which will also require local and international training, stressing the need for local governments to join hands with the state government to sponsor Rivers people for the training.
The permanent secretary of the Ministry, Mr Monday Ekekenta appreciated the mission of NIMASA, but advised them to make the training cost to be less expensive to enable the local governments embrace the programme.
