Vigilante Commander Hails LG Boss On Security
The General Commander of Emohua Local Government Vigilante Services (EMOLVIS) in Rivers State, Commander John Agi, has commended the Chairman of the Local Government Council, Dr Chidi Lloyd for his efforts in fighting crime and criminality in the area.
Agi, who made the commendation while speaking with newsmen in Emohua Community on Saturday said the council chairman is God- sent as he has demonstrated unprecedented determination and zeal to stamp out criminality in the area.
He hinted that the support of everyone residing in the council area particularly that of community leaders is highly needed to enable the Lloyd administration to effectively curtain all manner of criminality in the area, saying such support by all and sundry should be taken seriously.
According to him, the council chairman meant well for the people of the local government by setting up the vigilante security outfit, which he noted its activities had been properly profiled considering recent happenings in the area.
Agi contended that the council chairman did not end at setting up the security outfit but also ensured that the necessary requirements and logistics for its effective operations including stipends for the personnel were provided.
He further indicated that the council chairman had equally given to the security outfit other support and conventional logistics for it to succeed, hinting, however, that the only challenge hampering its activities is the inability of the various communities in the local government to make information available on the whereabouts of criminal elements constituting security threats to the people.
The commander particularly accused some community leaders of frustrating the efforts of the vigilante security outfit as well as sabotaging the noble intentions of the council chairman by refusing to provide information on the movement of the criminal elements, adding that such community leaders should be held responsible for any security breach in their communities.
Agi vowed that the security outfit would track down within a short space of time any criminal disturbing the peace of the council area if community leaders and other stakeholders live up to their responsibilities by doing the needful.
He hinted that the vigilante personnel are prepared to frontally fight criminality in the area with the full support of security agencies in order to promote peace and development in the area.
The commander said he volunteered to fight criminality in the area in order to move the local government forward, contending that no amount of threat would dampen his morale and zeal in ensuring that the council enjoys all round peace and development.
He appealed to youths of the area to embrace peace, which he noted is an essential ingredient for nation building, stressing that the council chairman has,in actions and deeds, been showing that he has the interest of the youths at heart.

UNIPORT Moves To Tackle Insecurity … Inducts Security Experts
The University of Port Harcourt, has taken a significant step towards addressing the issue of insecurity in Nigeria by producing security experts through its Institute of Niger Delta Studies (INDS), with the institute inducting its first graduating students into the Nigerian Institute For Industrial Security (NIIS), with the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 6 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General E E Emekah, delivering a quality lecture on the topic, “Promoting Blue Economy In The Niger Delta: The Place Of Security”.
In his lecture, Major General Emekah emphasised the importance of security in promoting the blue economy in the Niger Delta region.
He noted that the activities of the Joint Tasks Force (JTF) are geared towards maintaining peace on Nigerian waterways and promoting productivity, and also stressed the need for a non-kinetic approach to security operations, winning the hearts and minds of the communities, and collaborating with security personnel to fight insecurity.
The GOC charged the inductees to ensure that their study/training provides practical solutions to the pressing security challenges facing the Niger Delta and Nigeria as a whole.
He emphasised the significance of their studies in UNIPORT, given the prevailing security threat to lives and property, especially on Nigerian waterways.
The Acting Director of INDS, Dr. Chukwu-Okeah, expressed satisfaction that the occasion marks a new milestone in the history of the institute, noting that the Niger Delta has been besieged with environmental and security challenges, and it is time to rise up and build the region through the blue economy ideology.
The blue economy, he explained, emphasises the sustainable use of ocean resources for economic growth, improved livelihoods, and job creation while preserving the health of the ocean ecosystem.
He described the blue economy as the new oil well, with the potential to drive economic diversification, job creation, food security, and climate resilience in the region.
One of the inductees, Ayuba Tanimu noted that security is dynamic, and continuous learning and research have equipped them to serve their communities and Nigeria well.
He described the Nigerian Institute For Industrial Security (NIIS) as a body of security professionals that meets annually to craft security policies for the country.
The programme, which attracted prominent individuals from the academia, security, and other sectors had the 7th Vice Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt, Prof Joseph Ajienka, as its chairman.
