Six Rivers Powerlifters Qualify For National Competition
Six powerliffers from Rivers State have qualified for the first National Special Sports Athletic competition organized in Ibadan, Oyo state ahead of the 2012 Olympic games scheduled to hold in London next year.
The Tidesports gathered that the athletes who were successful in their various categories during the trail were Ivary .O. Nwaokorie, Happiness Nnadi, Omotala Falodun, Sade Ade, Oluwafemi Wilson Monday and Nee Kofejegede. Speaking in an interview with The Tidesports in Port Harcourt, one of the athletes, Ivary Nwaokorie disclosed that they were self-sponsored both in logistics, accommodation as well as registration for participation in the forthcoming 2012 Olympic games.
She explained that she came first in her 44kg category adding that the national powerlifting coach was fair and just in selecting the right athletes who qualified during the trail.
According to her, the athletes are expecting a circular for a competition outside the country in December, 2011 as part of preparation and selection for the 2012 olympic games.
When the competition finally comes up by December, 2011, I hope to defend my position and I know that with all my commitment to the sports and, hardwork I will qualify at the final hurdle to participate at the Olympic games”, Nwaokorie maintained.
It would be recalled that the special athletes sports held trial in Dubai amongst other African countries earlier this year and a Rivers State athletes came first.

Poor welfare forced me to dump Delta for Enugu, says world – Nwachukwu
The sudden departure of Nwachukwu, a multiple gold medallist, from Team Delta to the Coal City, Enugu , sparked controversy within the sports family, with officials of Delta State Sports Commission accusing the president of the Paralympic Committee of Nigeria, Sunday Odebode, of manipulating the system for the athlete to dump the state.
But Nwachukwu, who broke the World Record to win a gold medal for Team Nigeria in the Women’s Discus F42 event at the just-concluded Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, has cleared the air on the circumstances that led to her movement to Enugu State.
Speaking with The Tidesports source report, shortly after winning the gold medal, Nwachukwu said: “It is not true that anybody aided my movement from Delta State to Enugu. Rather, it was Delta State that forced me to leave because of poor remuneration.
