US Set To Return $23m Abacha Loot To Nigeria

Nigeria and the United States governments have reached an agreement on the return of over $23million looted by late military dictator, General Sani Abacha.
This followed the signing of an agreement by the governments, yesterday.
The agreement was signed at the Office of the Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, yesterday.
Malami signed on behalf of the Nigerian government, while the U.S Ambassador to Nigeria, Mary Beth Leonard, signed on the behalf of the United States Government.
The AGF said the fund, when returned, would be invested in three ongoing projects by the Federal Government, including the ongoing Abuja-Kaduna Road and the 2nd Niger Bridge.
Abacha ruled Nigeria from 1993 until his death in 1998, a period during which he stole up to $5billion of public money, according to Transparency International (TI).
The late military dictator was never charged.

HoS Hails Fubara Over Provision of Accommodation for Permanent Secretaries

The Head of Service (HoS) of Rivers State, Dr. Mrs. Inyingi S. I. Brown, has commended Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS, for approving befitting accommodation for Permanent Secretaries in the state.

This commendation was contained in a press release made available to newsmen in Port Harcourt.

According to the Head of Service, Governor Fubara has continued to demonstrate uncommon commitment to the welfare of civil servants in Rivers State, stressing that such gestures underscore his people-oriented leadership style. As part of activities to mark the governor’s birthday, the Body of Permanent Secretaries announced the sponsorship of 329 Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) forms for indigent students across the state.

A breakdown of the initiative shows that 319 forms will be distributed across the 319 political wards in Rivers State, while five forms are allocated to non-indigenes and five forms to persons living with disabilities.

The Body of Permanent Secretaries wished Governor Fubara continued good health, divine wisdom, and greater accomplishments in his service to the people of Rivers State.
