Governor, Senator Mourn Slain Sowore …As Police Hunt For Killers
Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State has condemned the killing of Mr Olajide Sowore, younger brother to former Presidential candidate, Mr Omoyele Sowore.
Olajide was killed on Saturday in Okada, Edo State.
The governor in a condolence message signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Muhammed Onogwu, commiserated with the Sowore family, stating that the death of Olajide was indeed a painful one.
Bello noted that evil men carrying out such an act of cowardice on a harmless citizen, must be brought to book, adding that no life should be lost in such a barbaric manner.
The governor said the 50-year-old Olajide Sowore, a student of Pharmacy at the Igbinedion University, Okada, was making such remarkable feat at that age, hence, served as an inspiration and example of a determined individual.
He prayed for God to give the family the fortitude to bear the loss, urging security operatives not to leave any stone unturned to unravel those behind such act of callousness.
Senator Nicholas Tofowomo representing Ondo South Senatorial District yesterday mourned slain Mr Olajide Sowore, immediate younger brother of Omoyele Sowore, publisher of Sahara Reporters.
Sowore was reportedly shot dead in the early hours of Saturday by suspected kidnappers near Okada in Edo State while he was returning from school and heading to his hometown.
Tofowomo said in a statement issued in Okitipupa that the killing of Sowore, one of his constituents, was shocking.
He stated that evil men had stopped a good heart from beating, adding that slain Sowore was reportedly a gentleman and easy-going person who was at peace with everyone.
“The daily loss of lives to suspected kidnappers without evidence of arrest and prosecution of culprits is a national disgrace.
“Nigerians are no longer safe even in their homes let alone on the highways over the persistent activities of kidnappers. The Federal Government should do something urgently to checkmate and curb this menace,’’ Tofowomo stated.
He commiserated with Omoyele Sowore, ex-presidential candidate, his entire family and the people of Ese-Odo Local Government Area in Ondo State over the loss of younger Sowore.
The Tide source reports that Sowore, aged 49, was a pharmacy student at Igbinedion University, Benin.

Rivers Commissioner Commends WAEC Conduct, Vows Sanctions for Malpractice
The Rivers State Commissioner for Education, Dr. Peters Nwagor, has commended the orderly conduct of the ongoing 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination in the state and urged schools to sustain the standard.
Dr. Nwagor gave the commendation on Tuesday during a monitoring tour of selected secondary schools in Port Harcourt and environs where the WAEC exam is ongoing.
The commissioner, who was accompanied by directors and monitors from the Ministry of Education, said he was impressed with the peaceful atmosphere at the centres visited.
“The students conducted themselves properly and wrote their papers under conducive conditions. Invigilators and supervisors also performed their duties professionally,” he stated.

Nwagor noted that the Rivers State Government had invested heavily to ensure the smooth and credible conduct of the examination across the state
He urged candidates to reciprocate government’s effort by shunning all forms of examination malpractice and focusing on their studies.
“Government has done so much to ensure successful examinations in our schools. Students should take advantage of it by remaining focused,” the commissioner said.
While no case of malpractice was recorded in the centres inspected, Dr. Nwagor warned that any principal, teacher, invigilator, or official caught aiding malpractice would face strict sanctions in line with regulations.
He also commended school administrators, teachers, WAEC officials, and security personnel for upholding the integrity of the process.
Centres visited included County Grammar School, Ikwerre/Etche; Government Comprehensive Secondary School, Borokiri; Government Secondary School, Borokiri; and Pabod Model Secondary School.
