RSG Denies Knowledge Of Smashed Orphanage

Barely 24hours after the police in Rivers State busted a Baby factory in Woji, near Port Harcourt, the Rivers State Government has said it has no record of Tender Life Rescue Mission, which the police said was operated as a baby factory.
It said claims by lawyer to the owner of the said orphanage paraded, last Wednesday, by the police that it was duly registered, was false.
The Commissioner, Rivers State Ministry of Social Welfare and Rehabilitation, Inime Aguma disclosed this in Port Harcourt, yesterday.
It would be recalled that the police command also rescued 24 babies and four pregnant teenage girls from the facility, according to the State Police spokesman, DSP Nnamdi Omoni, who paraded them before newsmen.
Omoni had said that the baby factory was smashed by men of the Eagle Crack Squad, who acted on credible information, saying that the command has no knowledge of such orphanage.
However, the lawyer to the owner of the orphanage, Eunice Uchendu, had said her client was duly registered with relevant government agencies in the state.
She also said that the orphanage had even received donations from the state government to take care of vulnerable girls who had health challenges.
Meanwhile, a faith-based organization, Omega Power Ministries (OPM) said one of the pregnant girls handed over to the church after they were rescued by the police from the facility has been delivered of a baby girl.
The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of OPM, Gogo Isaiah told newsmen, yesterday, that one of the teenage mothers had gone into labour immediately they arrived the church premises, last Wednesday evening.
He said, “Yesterday (Wednesday) night, the police commissioner put a call across to OPM as they call for our usual assistance, we went there, and they handed over four girls with pregnancy and the 25 babies.
“Out of the four girls we collected, one immediately went into labour, and we sent her to the hospital. Now, she has just put to bed, a baby girl; making it 26 babies.
“We have all it takes to take care of these babies. We have the hospitals, we have the facilities, we have the accommodation; we have the manpower, and we feel we can give back to society what comes to the church,” spokesman of the church added.
