NCF, CPAN End Rift, Set To Develop Chess
Following the misunderstanding in the past between the Nigeria Chess Federation and the Nigeria Chess Players Association, both parties are now dedicated to ensuring Nigerian chess progresses in the coming year.
Relationship between both parties was unhealthy last year which prompted the chess players to ask for the removal of the federation president, Olalekan Adeyemi.
The evidence of the toxic relationship was seen in the performance of the players at the African Games in Rabat, Egypt, where the country failed to win a single medal at the championship.
However, the president of the federation and some representatives of the players have met to discuss how to move Nigerian chess forward.
In order to achieve this, it was discussed at the meeting that an improved communication is necessary between NCF and Nigerian chess players. It was also proposed that an efficient website for the NCF should be activated in January 2020, as it will help improve communication between NCF and chess players.
It was also suggested that a periodically meet with tournament organisers, arbiters, sponsors and players should be held with the first set of such scheduled for this month.
The players also asked that the October 2019 National Friends of Chess tournament that has generated much debates for controversially not being rated should be rated.
Review of bans on previously affected players was also another issue that was addressed at the meeting
