INEC Awaits More DDC Machines In Rivers
Less than four days to the commencement of voters registration exercise, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Rivers State says it is still expecting the arrival of more Direct Data Capture (DDC) machines to cover the area.
INEC, The Tide gathered is expected to deplore one Direct Data Capture (DDC) machine to each of the 4441 polling units across Rivers State.
However, reports indicate that most states have taken delivery of DDC machines meant for the January 15 to January 29 voters registration exercise.
In an interview with The Tide yesterday in Port Harcourt, Mrs Anthonia Nwobi, INEC Public Relations Officer said the office was still expecting more DDC machines to enable it meet the demand of the registration exercise.
“As I speak with you, a trailer carrying some of the machines just arrived INEC office, Port Harcourt. I know that more machines are still being expected,” she said, but declined to comment on whether the state had received enough machines for the exercise or not.
Nwobi, however, said there was no cause for alarm, as the state would get enough machines before the take-off of the exercise slated for January 15.
The Tide correspondent who monitored the exercise in Obio/Akpor, Port Harcourt and Eleme local government areas reports that the exercise is going on without hitches.
One of the INEC trainers who did not want his name in print, said he was encouraged at the rate in which the trainees were following up with the lessons.
