NGO Wants College Of Agriculture In Etche

The African Global Development for Drastic Change (AGDDC), a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), has called on the Federal Government to establish the proposed Federal College of Agriculture in Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State.
In a communiqué, jointly signed by Prince Dan Mbachi and Dr John Ukpong, President and Secretary, respectively and made available to The Tide, the group said Etche remained the highest in Agricultural production in the Niger Delta region.
According to AGDDC, majority of the indigenes of Etche are farmers, pointing out that the youths of the area are yearning for modern agriculture to improve their skills in order to increase crop yield.
“Many vibrant youths are badly in need of knowledge to expand their skills through modern agric techniques.
“Etche land is the food basket of the South-South and South East political zones in Nigeria, where everybody is a commercial farmer”, the statement said.
The NGO, specifically requested the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD), to consider their request, promising to donate land for the project when the need arises.
He added that apart from abundance of land, Etche is also blessed with other natural resources like crude oil that is being explored from about 200 oil wells in the area.
According to the communiqué, if Etche is considered, it will make up for the neglect it has suffered through the lack of federal government’s presence over the years.
