Police Recover Missing N60m In Rivers

The Rivers State police command says it has recovered over N60 million stolen from one of the new generation banks in the state last week.
The acting state Commissioner of Police and Deputy Commissioner of Police incharge of Administration, Uche J. Anozia, disclosed this while addressing journalists during a press briefing at the command’s headquarters in Port Harcourt, yesterday.
Anozia averred that the recovery of the said amount by the command was due to the intelligence and diligent search carried out by his men when the matter was reported, adding that the money was allegedly reported missing bya new generation bank, Stanbic IBTC on Friday and was found yesterday at the premises of Everyday Supermarket along Olu Obasanjo Road.
According to him, when officers from the Swift Armed Robbery Squad (SARS) discovered the bullion van at the premises of Everyday Supermarket, and opened the vehicle, a video confirming the records and details of the missing money was found, adding that the police will arrest all the suspects involved through the video recording device.
The police boss, however, said that no arrest has been made, adding that investigation into the matter has commenced.
Anozia disclosed that both the bullion van driver and the person who reported about the missing money have all fled, adding that the billion van belonged to a private company operating around the Forces Avenue, Old GRA by Bankers Warehouse.
“When the matter was reported to me on Friday last week, I dispatched my DC Operations to ensure the recovery of the money. Today, we are happy to announce to you all that we have found the vehicle and the money at the premises of Everyday Supermarket, containing sack bags loaded with Stanbic Bank money and the amount is N60,250,000. The officials who reported the matter have all fled away”, he stated.
A source from the Stanbic Bank alleged that a total of N100 million was what the bank declared missing, adding that the bank has lost over N30 million based on the report disclosed by the police.
The Tide learnt that the alleged money was conveyed from a bank in Aba, Abia State, to be deposited at Zenith and Stanbic banks in Port Harcourt.
The Tide further learnt that the driver of the bullion van absconded with the money at Everyday Super market when the security personnel who allegedly escorted the Van from Aba to Zenith Bank refused to extend their services to Stanbic Bank Zonal Officer along Olu Obasanjo Road on the premise that they were not contracted to follow the van to Stanbic Bank.
Meanwhile, the Rivers State Police Command says it has arrested six suspected armed robbers and recovered arms and ammunition in different operations in the state.
A press statement by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Omoni Nnamdi, gave the identity of the some of the alleged armed robbery suspects arrested as Dickson Egba and Peter Rueben from Bayelsa and Akwa Ibom states, respectively.
He averred that the alleged arrested robbers had perfected plans to attack TOG Hotel at No. 1, Yola Street, Old GRA, Port Harcourt, adding that upon their arrest, two Revolver Pistols with four live ammunition (9mm caliber) were recovered from them.
He used the opportunity to reiterate the need for continued public support and assistance in the onerous task to rid the entire state of criminals, even as he reassured the people of their safety and security as they go about their lawful businesses.
