Be Vanguards Of Peaceful Polls, Banigo Tells Women
Ahead of March 19th re-run elections for the National Assembly and State House of Assembly in Rivers State, the Deputy Governor of the State, Dr Ipalibo Harry Banigo, has enjoined women to champion the campaign for peaceful elections in the state.
Banigo, who gave the advice while recounting the impact of the Women Empowerment and Sustainable Development workshop recently organised by the Ministry of Women Affairs in Port Harcourt, said women should use their God-given talent as home builders and community developers to preach peace to their children and wards.
The deputy governor urged women to take advantage of their numerical strength to initiate positive transformation for a better society, pointing out that Rivers Women have more opportunities to grow under the present state administration, and enjoined them to always vote for candidates that will work for the interest of the state.
She advised women to stand up in whatever area they find themselves, and assured them that Governor Nyesom Wike-led government supports the aspirations of women in achieving their full potentials.
“There is a call for society to recognise the potentials of women and the blue print of the present state government recognises the role of women in economic, social and political development of the state,” she asserted.
The deputy governor equally charged the women to come together to fight discrimination, stigmatization and violence against them, pointing out that Wike believes in the rights of women hence the appointment of the first female chief judge in the state and has more female permanent secretaries in the history of Rivers State.
