Jaja Rallies Traditional Rulers’ Support For Rivers Economy
The new Chairman of the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers, King Dandeson Douglas Jaja has solicited the co-operation of people of the state for the government of Chief Nyesom Wike in its efforts to grow the state’s economy and pull the society out of the present state of despair.
He also indicated his commitment to working to ensure that the traditional rulers council becomes a respectable partner to government and other stakeholders and communities within and outside the state.
King Dandeson Jaja who is the Amanyanabo of Opobo Kingdom stated this yesterday when he formally assumed office at the Traditional Rulers’ Council Secretariat in Port Harcourt.
In his acceptance speech, the new Chairman identified the challenges of the present government in the state to include less public sector revenue, unpaid salaries, increasing number of the unemployed, insecurity and neglect of many communities.
He solicited the support of the traditional rulers in the state to “gird our loins firmly and put our hands to the plough to change this sorry state”.
The Chairman of Rivers State Traditional Rulers Council commended Governor Wike for putting the economy and happiness of people of the state as priority and assured that he would utilise the opportunity the appointment has afforded him, to ensure that government’s policies and programmes reflect the governor’s pledge to put the interest of the people first.
The Opobo monarch commended his predecessors in office for their tireless efforts and wisdom in very trying times as well as members for their support in dealing with challenges facing the institution over the years.
Speaking while handing over authority to King Jaja, the out-going Chairman and Gbenemene Tai, Chief G.N.K. Gininwa congratulated the new Chairman and promised to work with him.
He expressed confidence that the new Chairman of the Traditional Rulers Council would face the challenges of the office creditably.
Among traditional ruler present at the ceremony include the Onye-Ishi-Etche, Eze E.N.B. Opurum, Odah Abuan, King Kele Obuge, the Okan Ama of Ngo, Uboon (Dr) U.D Ngere, chiefs and elders of Opobo Kingdom and other well wishers.
