Niger Inaugurates $100m Education Quality Enhancement Project
Niger on Friday inaugurated a 100 million dollars project to support quality education in the country in the next five years.
The project is financed by the World Bank through the Global Education Partnership (GEP) and the French Development Agency (AFD).
Launching the project, the Minister of Town and Country Planning, Amadou Cissé, said its success depended on the commitment and responsibility of central technical directors at the ministry of Education.
Also speaking at the event, resident-representative of the World Bank in Niger, Djibrilla Karamoko, said there were huge challenges in trying to improve the quality of education in the country.
He cited lack of learning materials and appropriate school manuals, lack of qualified teachers particularly within the urban and rural centres, and the insufficiency in the time for learning and education as key challenges.
The project focuses on, among other things, access to equal education and the improvement of the quality of teachers and learning.
It also aims to build capacities, build schools and latrines, train teachers and build infrastructure in teachers’ training schools.
