RSG Assures Of Security, Bans Okada In Four LGAs
The Rivers State Government has assured citizens of adequate security during Saturday’s governorship polls in the state.
The state Governor, Chibuike Amaechi, gave the assurance during an interactive session with stakeholders and senior citizens of the state at Dr. Obi Wali International Conference Centre, yesterday, in Port Harcourt.
He assured that measures are being taken to ensure a level playing field for all parties during the elections, while expressing hope that what happened during the presidential polls will not repeat itself.
The governor called on traditional rulers, opinion leaders and party faithful, “to take this singular message to their people to come out en mass and vote candidates of their choice. What happened during March 28 Presidential polls will not occur again.”
Amaechi stated that, “what the security operatives and the state government agreed at the meeting was to design a mechanism on how to stop the attempt by militants and political thugs to snatch and hijack INEC materials during Saturday’s polls. Voters and party agents should not allow these hoodlums take over the election. They can’t kill all of us.”
The governor further stated that the police and military authorities have assured the state government they will deploy more troops to guarantee safety of lives at the polls and protection of property of law-abiding citizens.
He, therefore, urged the citizenry not to be intimidated by the opposition forces but to vote for the right candidate, adding that “the APC guber candidate, Dr. Dakuku Peterside is our candidate and we believe he will do a better job than Nyesom Wike.”
In reaction to recent activities of hoodlums and political thugs in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni, Ahoada-East, Ahoada -West and Abua/Odual local government areas, Amaechi announced immediate ban of Okada in and around the affected LGAs until after the elections.
Amaechi urged party supporters in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government to come out and vote, as security has been put in place to protect lives and property in the area.
