Firm To Reduce Road, House Construction Cost
An Italian construction
company, Gagliadi, has offered to assist in reducing the high cost of building and road construction in Nigeria.
Chairman of the company in Nigeria, Mr Koye Shogbola, made this promise during an interactive session recently with journalists in Lagos.
He said with the dwindling revenue from oil and the need to develop new infrastructure and maintain existing ones, stressing that the company’s experience in road construction and building infrastructure at modest cost would be greatly beneficial to Nigeria.
According to Shogbola, Gagliadi’s financial model for construction of low-income houses would bring smiles to the faces of millions of Nigerians who dream of owning houses but could not get support and needed assistance from firms and financial institutions.
“In many parts of Europe and North Africa, Gagliadi’s financial model for low-income houses has made it possible for many to become home owners,’ he said, adding that the model would help millions of civil servants and other classes of paid workers and small-scale business people.
The company’s chairman explained further that unlike most foreign multinationals, Gagliadi relies on local workers for most of its workforce and enriches worker with new skills and techniques as well as use of local materials.
“The coming of Gagliadi will positively impact our economy. Many of our young graduates, who are highly qualified but are roaming the streets will be gainfully employed as the company had done in Libya, Tunisia and even Morocco,” he stated.
He said the company was looking forward to a mutually beneficial relationship with the government and Nigerians.
According to him, with over five decades experience in road construction and building of low-cost houses in Italy, Spain and Portugal, Gagliadi has done expansive work in North African countries, such as Tunisia, Morocco and Libya before opening shop in Lagos.

Kenyan Runners Dominate Berlin Marathons
Kenya made it a clean sweep at the Berlin Marathon with Sabastian Sawe winning the men’s race and Rosemary Wanjiru triumphing in the women’s.
Sawe finished in two hours, two minutes and 16 seconds to make it three wins in his first three marathons.
The 30-year-old, who was victorious at this year’s London Marathon, set a sizzling pace as he left the field behind and ran much of the race surrounded only by his pacesetters.
Japan’s Akasaki Akira came second after a powerful latter half of the race, finishing almost four minutes behind Sawe, while Ethiopia’s Chimdessa Debele followed in third.
“I did my best and I am happy for this performance,” said Sawe.
“I am so happy for this year. I felt well but you cannot change the weather. Next year will be better.”
Sawe had Kelvin Kiptum’s 2023 world record of 2:00:35 in his sights when he reached halfway in 1:00:12, but faded towards the end.
In the women’s race, Wanjiru sped away from the lead pack after 25 kilometers before finishing in 2:21:05.
Ethiopia’s Dera Dida followed three seconds behind Wanjiru, with Azmera Gebru, also of Ethiopia, coming third in 2:21:29.
Wanjiru’s time was 12 minutes slower than compatriot Ruth Chepng’etich’s world record of 2:09:56, which she set in Chicago in 2024.
