Police Harp On Peaceful Co-existence
The Nigeria Police
Committee on Prevention and Management of Communal Clashes/Crisis, has advised communities in Cross River on peaceful co-existence with their neighbours.
The Chairman of the Committee and AIG Zone 3, Yola, Mr Mohammed Abubakar, gave the advice in Calabar during a town hall meeting with some traditional rulers in the state.
Abubakar said the meeting was initiated to create dialogue among communities that had been in disputes for a long time.
According to him, the committee was inaugurated by the Police in 2014 to ensure peace and stability in all communities nationwide.
The AIG said that the meeting was held with traditional rulers because they were the custodians of the people’s culture, adding that they would transmit the outcome to their subjects.
“This meeting was set up to enable us talk and listen to communities that have long outstanding land disputes and other forms of communal clashes.
“As a matter of fact, we expect to hear their problems and find solutions to them,’’ he said.
In his speech, Mr Patrick Inok, Clan Head of Iqua Clan in Calabar Municipality, lauded the initiative of the police in ensuring peaceful co-existence among communities in the state and Nigeria.
Inok said the meeting would give aggrieved communities the privilege to express their views.
