Mba Community Celebrates New Year With Light …Hails RSG
New Year Day could
be described as a special day world over, when people rolled out drums in celebration for surviving the previous year. But to the people of Mba, in Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State, the new Year Day ushered in double celebration as the people experienced the appearance of public electricity supply for the first time since the history of the town.
The Tide reports that the rural electrification project of the Rivers State Government became a reality as the people saw for the first time, flicker of light.
The Chief Priest of Alamba Shrine, Eze Aloysius Onyema expressed great joy at the power supply in the town.
The Chief Priest said, “it was like a dream when not just the children alone, but women, youths and elders shouted ‘NEPAA’. Mind you, this is happening for the first time in the history of Mba.”
He commended the administration of Rt Hon. Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi for remembering his people.
“Let God continue to bless Amaechi. His administration has laid a legacy that cannot be forgotten for the electricity and good road he gave to my people,’ he said, commending the Rivers State Governor for showing the people that democracy is for the rural area and not just the big men and women up there in the urban areas.”
The Youth leader of Okudu Community, the traditional headquarters of Mba town, Mr ThankGod Oluoh said,’ the youths are overwhelmed by joy for what I can describe as the wonders of democracy.
Gov Amaechi has given us reason to believe that democracy is government by the people and for the people. We the youths of Mba will live to remember the name Amaechi. We shall always remember him because he has remembered us their in his high place.”
A business man in the area, Mr Chijioke Nworgu said he has started to make better business.’ There is light for me to chill my drinks. I can now preserve my left overs and my generator can now rest,” he said.
Nworgu commended the present administration for remembering our remote area that had not been considered by past administration for any government project.
He called on the government to consider any project especially agro-allied company for the area.
The businessman who runs an eatry in the area said the coming electricity and good road network in the area would open up businesses for the area.
The light will encourage small scale industries and presence of small scale industries will usher in bigger firms. So the area is set for rapid development.
He further called on the government and private investors to turn attention to the area.

Dangote Refinery Resumes Gantry Self-Collection Sales, Tuesday
This is revealed in an email communication from the Group Commercial Operations Department of the company, and obtained by Newsmen, at the Weekend.
The company explained that while gantry access is being reinstated, the free delivery service remains operational, with marketers encouraged to continue registering their outlets for direct supply at no additional cost.
The statement said “in reference to the earlier email communication on the suspension of the PMS self-collection gantry sales, please note that we will be resuming the self-collection gantry sales on the 23rd of September, 2025”.
Dangote Petroleum Refinery also apologised to its partners for any inconvenience the suspension may have caused, while assuring stakeholders of its commitment to improving efficiency and ensuring seamless supply.
“Meanwhile, please be informed that we are aggressively delivering on the free delivery scheme, and it is still open for registration. We encourage you to register your stations and pay for the product to be delivered directly to you for free. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding,” it added.
It would be recalled that in September 18, 2025, Dangote refinery had suspended gantry-based self-collection of petroleum products at its depot. The move was designed to accelerate the adoption of its Free Delivery Scheme, which guarantees direct shipments of petroleum products to registered retail outlets across Nigeria.
The refinery stressed that the earlier decision was an operational adjustment aimed at streamlining efficiency in the downstream supply chain.
