Group Applauds Newly Elected LG Chairmen
The National Association of Ogoni Media Workers (NAOMEW) has congratulated the newly elected chairmen of the four Ogoni Local Government Councils of Khana, Gokana, Tai and Eleme on their victory at the just concluded local government elections in Rivers State and and their successful assumption of office, and urged them to accord priority attention to security, human capital and economic development in Ogoni land.
The newly elected chairmen, recently sworn in to pilot the affairs of the four Ogoni local government areas are Hon Martins Nwigbo, Khana; Hon Brain Gokpa, Eleme; Hon Mathew Dike, Tai; and Hon Monday Dumiye, Gokana respectively.
The association in a statement signed by the Secretary, Comrade Taneh Beemene and the President, Comrade Martin Giadom said the new chairmen should consider their emergence as the new helmsmen in the four LGAs as an opportunity to turn around the depleting economic fortunes of Ogoni, which is at the moment characterised by the absence of economic activities and boredom among the teeming youths of Ogoni.
The statement urged the new council chairmen to be consultative in the their development agenda to implement development projects that will have direct bearing and positive impacts on the lives of Ogoni people who are in dire need of economic development.
The association also advised the new LGA chairmen to appoint professional journalists and media experts as their media handlers to properly and positively project the image of Ogoni, especially in this era of unguarded media infiltration by gate crashers that promote misinformation, disinformation and distortion of facts in media contents.
The group also pledged their total support and partnership to the local government areas in rendering quality professional services that will place Ogoni on its deserving pedestal of development.
