Rivers Chief Judge Inaugurates LGA Election Tribunals
The Chief Judge of Rivers State, Justice Simeon Chibuzor Amadi, has inaugurated the Rivers State Local Government Election Petition Tribunal and Appeal panel to hear the petitions arising from the just concluded Council elections in the state
The state chief judge advised chairmen and members of the committees to be fair to all parties concerned and discharge their duties with fear of God.
In a press statement by the Chief Registrar of Rivers State High Court, David Ihua-Maduenyi, said the local government election petition tribunal and appeal which was inaugurated on Monday, 7th of October, 2024, adding that the e tribunal was divided into three panels with one appeal panel.
According to the statement, those listed as members of the first panel include , Chief Magistrate Rosemary N. IBANIBO as the Chairman while PRECIOUS DIKE and EMMANUEL EVANS-DAPPA will serve as members.
Others listed in the second tribunals are Chief Magistrate, MENENEN POROMON as Chairman, with GRACE IKENYIRI and BENEDICT NEENAADOR KINAKAH as members
while the third election panel has Chief Magistrate BETTY SUNNY-HART as Chairman ,while G. S. MINANYO and MABEL AMESI were appointed as members.
The statement however said Justice OPUFAA BEN-WHYTE was appointed as Chairman of the Local Government Election Appeal panel alongside Justice FRANK ONYIRI and Justice IBIETELA MADIGHI-OBU who were appointed as members respectively.

RSG INAUGURATES ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMITTEE
The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to organize the celebration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) in the State.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.
Dr Anabraba who also serves as Chairman of the Committee
highlighted the State Government’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the nation’s peace and unity.
“These heroes have given their lives for the security and peace of our nation and deserve to be celebrated. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice,” he said.
Dr. Anabraba further extended recognition to all Security Agencies in the State, emphasizing the importance of the event in appreciating their contributions to national security and sovereignty.
The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15 across the country is dedicated to remember Nigeria’s departed soldiers and honouring the nation’s veterans.
