Bauchi Gov advocates Police Remembrance Day
Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi has called for introduction of the Police Remembrance Day, to remember fallen heroes in the country.
Mohammed made the call in Bauchi yesterday while launching the 2024 Armed Forces Remembrance Day and Emblem Appeal Week.
He said the measure would provide platform to address plight of the family members of retired and fallen police personnel.
The governor also donated N10 million to the Nigerian Legion, and urged wealthy individuals to contribute towards improving the welfare of the legionnaires.
Mohammed said the legionnaires served Nigeria, protected and preserved its territorial integrity as well as its survival as a single indivisible entity.
The nation, he said, achieved the feat through their sacrifices during the World Wars, the Nigerian Civil War and other wars, hence the need to appreciate them.
“I want to assure the legionnaires that the government will continue to assist them in order to provide succour to them.
“The Emblem Appeal Week and the laying of the Wreaths is observed annually to reflect on the development of the Nigerian Armed Forces, and the political development of the country.
“Some of us have forgotten the great sacrifices of these men whose efforts have made it possible for us to enjoy our lives today,” he said.
The Chairman, Nigeria Legion in Bauchi, retired Warrant Officer, Idris Danjuma, lauded the governor for providing office accommodation and his support for welfare of the legionners in the state.
