Police Recover Weapons As Cult Leader Surrenders In Rivers

The Rivers State Police Command says it has made positive gains in its ongoing onslaught in the war against kidnapping and other criminality challenging the State, with the huge success recorded in the recovery of arms and ammunition that were hitherto, illegally in the hands of the criminals.
The Commissioner of Police in the State, CP Emeka Nwoyi disclosed this while briefing journalists in Port Harcourt, last Friday on the latest achievements recorded by the command in another excellent accomplishment in fighting crime and criminality.
Nwoyi said the police within the period under review recovered two AK-47 rifles, 18 magazines,1
Pump-action riffle, 14 live ammunition and one Lar Rifle Magazine.
The state Commissioner of Police further disclosed that following credible information, operatives of Rivers State Police Command’s Octopus Unit, Port Harcourt, raided a notorious criminal hideout at Rumuokwuta,in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, on Friday, 28/07/2023 at about 1750hrs.
On arrival, the notorious criminals took to their heels, escaped through the canal, adding that the criminals abandoned 14 rounds of 7.62 mm long-live ammunition, one lar rifle Magazine, 50 wraps of weeds suspected to be Indian Hemp, 42 sachets of hard drugs suspected to be loud, six sachets of Chelsea drink, 20 sachets of Eagle drink, 10 sachets of Tombo bitters, Four packets of Chesterfield cigarettes, and five assorted GSM handsets, which he said ,have been recovered.
He said Operatives of the Anti-cultism Unit, on Sunday, July 30, 2023, at about 1430hrs, while on stop and search along Aluu/Omagwa Road, sighted a Volvo vehicle with reg. no. NKR 933 XA registered in Imo State with two occupants and are upon sighting the police operatives, the hoodlums abandoned the vehicle and escaped into the bush.
“The vehicle was searched, and the following items were recovered: One AK-47 rifle, three AK-47 magazines, 12 rounds of 7.66mm ammunition; one pump-action rifle, and an empty black bag.
Efforts are in place to arrest other fleeing suspects.” he stated.
Meanwhile, the State police command has said that the sustained war on criminals and incessant raid on cultist camps across the State was responsible why one General ‘2man’ ‘m’ of Ogbologbolo Community in Ahoada West Local Government Area and leader of the Green Landers Cult Group to surrender to the police operatives, one AK-47 rifle with six live rounds of 7.62 x 39 mm calibre and two SMG rifles.
The Commissioner of Police, averred that effort has been on to launch more raids on the hoodlums for the possible recovery of more arms and ammunition in their possession.
He further told journalists that operatives of the command on Wednesday, August, 2023 at about 1730hrs, one Isaac Okoma ‘m,’ 39 years old, of Alebiri Town, Ekeremo Local Government Area, Bayelsa State, presently residing at Mass Central Hotel, UPE Sandfill Borikiri, has been arrested in connection with the murder of the late Josephine Ibiju ‘f,’ of Baptist Waterfront, which was reported on Saturday, June 10, 2023 and added that a preliminary investigation has commenced, and the case will soon be transferred to SCID.
“In the light of this, I sincerely appeal to the good residents of the State, urging them to actively support our committed police operatives as they work tirelessly to combat all types of criminal activities within the State”.
