Wike Applauds Traditional Council Leadership Over Archival Initiative
The Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has applauded the Chairman of Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers, King Dandeson Jaja, for his initiative of setting up a Library and Archives for the council.
He said it was under the leadership of Jaja that the ultra-modern secretariat was built for the council and now, the Library and Archives.
Wike, who made the commendation while speaking at the commissioning ceremony of the library and Archives at the council’s Secretariat in Port Harcourt, noted that the idea was well thought out, such that it will preserve the history and cultural heritage of Rivers people.
“I thank you, Chairman of Traditional Rulers, for this lofty idea you brought forth for the setting up of the library and archives for posterity and preserving the history and culture of our people”, the Governor said.
Earlier in his speech, the Chairman of Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers and the Amanyanabo of Opobo Kingdom, HRM Dandeson Jaja, described Governor Wike as a professor of political theories and practice.
He commended the Governor for using his good office to put forth the design of the ultramodern secretariat for the council.
“We are quite satisfied with the success you have made in your government, and it is in your government that you put forth the design for the ultra-modern Secretariat.
“On behalf of the Council of Traditional Rulers, I welcome you and your entourage to the commissioning of the newly setup library and archives.
“The archives has documents like traditional dances of various ethnic groups, and our library has attracted various researchers within and outside the country”, he said.
Highlight of the ceremony was the official commissioning of the library and archives by the Governor, in company of the Governor-elect, Siminialayi Fubara and his Deputy, Speaker of the State Assembly, PDP Chairman, and a Professor emeritus of history, E.J. Alagoa, who the Governor invited to join him, for his contributions in the setting up of the library and archives.
