Group Sensitises Opobo Women On PVC Collection
Traditional rulers, elders and professionals in Opobo Kingdom have lauded the Waribo Iruanya War Canoe House extraction of Opobo Women Welfare Association (OWWA) for their response in the collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVC).
The group, under the aegis of Opobo Elder Statesmen For Sim, who were undertaking a campaign on PVC collection sensitisation, visited the women of Waribo Iruanya War Canoe House and enlightened them on the need for effective women participation in the ongoing political process in the country.
Addressing the women, Chairman of the Opobo Elder Statesmen for Sim, Alabo Edwin Cockeye Brown, said the sensitisation campaign, which began in Opobo a few weeks ago, had been productive as many ‘Opobians’ are said to be responding to the call.
Alabo Brown disclosed that the PVC collection campaign was not limited to visiting the women, as the group had also individually embarked on door-to-door sensitisation and visiting house meetings of various war canoe houses.
He stated that the group was not leaving anything to chance as the members were poised to ensuring the victory of their son, Amaopusenibo Siminialayi Fubara, in the 2023 general elections.
According to him, “we are not taking chances. The candidature of our son, Amaopusenibo Siminialayi Fubara, is a call to action, not only to his party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), but to every patriotic Opobo son and daughter. Sim is an open cheque given to us and that’s why we won’t rest on our oars until that dream metamorphoses to reality.”
Brown, who is also Chairman of Cockeye Brown War Canoe House in Kalaomuso Polo, along with other chiefs in the Kingdom, said their objective was primarily geared towards educating people at the grassroots on the political process, “considering the fact that we now have an opportunity which is from God that doesn’t come all the time.
“So, as elder statesmen, we must let you know that God has freely gifted us what others are desiring to have, and we must not take it for granted”, he said.
Also speaking, the group’s Director of Operations, Warisenibo Donald Brown, said the exercise was in keeping with the promise to sustain the campaign in Opobo Kingdom till all remaining PVCs were collected from the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Opobo Town.
“The women of Iruanya War Canoe House must as a matter of necessity join the rest and collect their PVC, secure them and get ready to come out to vote when the time comes”, he said.
Earlier in her welcome address, the President of Opobo Women Welfare Association (OWWA), Amaopuorubo Felicia People, said prayers are being intensified to make Sim Fubara Governor come 2023.
She thanked the Opobo Elder Statesmen For Sim for their support and sensitizing Opobians on participating in the political process, pledging their collaboration in that regard.
On his part, Alabo Captain Uranta said convening the women meeting was timely as it provided the right platform to address their civic obligations. He also enjoined other Opobians to compliment to women by going to collect their PVCs.
