Cleric Cautions INEC Against Disrupting Nigeria’s Peace
A Christian cleric, Apostle Zilly Aggrey, has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) not to play with what he called the fragile peace that the country is enjoying now, with the conduct of 2023 election.
Zilly Aggrey, who is the founder and Senior Pastor of the Royal House of Grace International Church, said the current peace that pavades the country is a fragile one, only because of the hope that the election will soon come, and that many people are yearning for a change.
Aggrey, the South-South Zone Chairman of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), who disclosed this while speaking to airport correspondents shortly on arrival at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa, weekend, noted that Nigerians are yearning for a change, hence INEC must not joke over it.
“The only hope that Nigerians have now, to make a change, is in the 2023 general election that is almost at hand. But I want the INEC to realise that it should not be business as usual, because the people are no longer happy with what is going on in the country.
“This is not about religion and tribe, but it is about the suffering masses of Nigeria. Hunger and high cost of fuel do not exempt any tribe or religion, everybody goes to the same market to buy.
“So, INEC must be very careful with the conduct of the coming election, and ensure that transparent election is carried out across the country, and that necessary machineries are adequately deployed.
“They must not joke with the future and economy of this country, by trying to subvert the will of the people, in trying to favour a politician. That will be very costly because it could lead to the breakdown of law and order.” he said.
The cleric also cited instances of the #Endsars palaver, noting that Nigeria is so populated that no neighbouring country could harbour its citizens in time of crisis.
He, therefore, called on the INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, to write his name in gold in the history of Nigeria, as one that conducted election that took Nigeria, out of the woods.
Aggrey also urged Nigerian electorates to be wise in the choice of electing a leader, and called on those that have intension to sell their votes, to be wiser this time around to make good use of their PVCs.
