Ekweremadu Case: Ukpo’s 21, Not 15, Prosecution Tells Court …Again, Accused Remanded Till Aug 4

The Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court in the United Kingdom, yesterday, ruled that the kidney donor in Ekweremadu’s case, David Ukpo,was not a minor.
The prosecutors told the Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court in the United Kingdom hearing the case of alleged organ trafficking involving the former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, and his wife, Beatrice, that the kidney donor, was actually 21 years old and not a minor.
Prosecutors were said to have told the court that all the available evidence provided by the Nigerian showed that the said donor was actually 21 years old and not 15 years old as widely reported.
Both Ekweremadu and his wife appeared in the court, yesterday, and they pleaded not guilty to the charge of organ harvesting while the case has been transferred to the Central Criminal Court, and adjourned till August 4, 2022.
They have also been ordered to be remanded in custody till the adjourned date.
With the ruling, respite is underway for Ekweremadu and his wife, Beatrice, despite the fact that they would be remanded in custody until the next hearing on August 4.
The focal point of the Ekweremadus’ legal predicament is majorly around Ukpo’s age debate – the allegation that they brought a 15-year-old child (a minor) to the UK to harvest his organs.
With the controversies surrounding Ukpo’s age addressed by the fresh ruling, the coast is a bit clear, and supporters of the former deputy Senate president who have been in the background, would now be more encouraged to show open solidarity.
Meanwhile, some members of the Senate and delegates from the Nigeria High Commission were present at the hearing in the UK, yesterday.
Those who attended include, former National Publicity Secretary for Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Olisah Metuh; former Senate Minority Leader, Senator Eyinnanya Abaribe, former Senate President, David Mark, and former Minister of State for Education, Hon Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba.
The Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs arrived the Westminster court in the UK for the trial of former deputy Senate president, who is involved in an “organ harvest” case.
The London Metropolitan Police arrested and charged Ekweremadu, senator representing Enugu West, and his wife to court for allegedly bringing a child to the UK for organ harvesting.
The UK authorities said the “child” had “been safeguarded”, while the police said their operatives “are working closely with partners on continued support”.
The Senate had resolved to send a delegation to the UK to ascertain the particulars of the case.

HoS Hails Fubara Over Provision of Accommodation for Permanent Secretaries

The Head of Service (HoS) of Rivers State, Dr. Mrs. Inyingi S. I. Brown, has commended Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS, for approving befitting accommodation for Permanent Secretaries in the state.
This commendation was contained in a press release made available to newsmen in Port Harcourt.
According to the Head of Service, Governor Fubara has continued to demonstrate uncommon commitment to the welfare of civil servants in Rivers State, stressing that such gestures underscore his people-oriented leadership style. She urged civil servants across the state to remain supportive of the governor’s administration in order to sustain good governance and effective public service delivery.
Speaking on behalf of the Body of Permanent Secretaries, Dr. Brown congratulated Governor Fubara on the occasion of his 51st birthday, describing him as “a Governor who leads by serving.”
She further praised the governor’s service-driven and people-centred leadership approach, noting that it has significantly contributed to institutional stability and improved efficiency within the state’s public service. Special appreciation was expressed for the approval of a befitting accommodation complex for Permanent Secretaries, which she said reflects the governor’s commitment to staff welfare and enhanced productivity.
As part of activities to mark the governor’s birthday, the Body of Permanent Secretaries announced the sponsorship of 329 Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) forms for indigent students across the state.
A breakdown of the initiative shows that 319 forms will be distributed across the 319 political wards in Rivers State, while five forms are allocated to non-indigenes and five forms to persons living with disabilities.

The Body of Permanent Secretaries wished Governor Fubara continued good health, divine wisdom, and greater accomplishments in his service to the people of Rivers State.

Allegation of Disrespect to President Tinubu Unfounded — Rivers Government
