RSU’s High Ranking Responsible For Students’ Choice Of Varsity-VC
Vice Chancellor, Rivers State University, Nkpolu-Oroworukwo, Port H Okogbule, has stated that the university is now the choice of most students and parents due to the high reputation ranking of the university for several years now.
Okogbule attributed the positive transformation in the university to the Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, for the trust and confidence reposed on management and council of the university lethat placed it among the best universities in the country.
He further attributed the enormous infrastructural development embarked upon by the Governor Wike-led administration, nothing that it would givethe university a new outlook both nationally and internationally.
Okogbule stated further that the admission selection process into the university was rigorous due to the high reputation of the university, adding that the number of students that choose to study in the university increased tremendously.
He stated this at the University’s 40th Matriculation Ceremony held last Wednesday May 18, 2022 at the Convocation Arena, Nkpolu Oroworukwo Port Harcourt.
He announced a total of Seven Thousand, Seven Hundred and Forty Eight (7,748) fresh students that were formally admitted into the Rivers State University.
The university don emphasised that the candidates satisfied the minimum requirements for admission into the various programmes of the university after a rigorous process taken by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board Examination as well as the Post UTME Screening test organised by the university.
The Vice Chancellor gave the break down in the faculties as follows: College of Medical Sciences, 424; Agriculture, 705; Communication and Media Studies, 662; Education, 557; Engineering 1,200; Environmental Sciences, 205.
Others were Humanities, 717; Law, 250; Management Sciences, 589; Science 1,667; and Social Sciences 772 .
The Vice-Chancellor this advised students on the need for them to take their education seriously, stressing that the key to success is hard work.
“As you have been told during the orientation exercise, the key to success is hard work and unwavering focus on your academic assignment.
“You are therefore expected to take your studies seriously and not waste your valuable time on unproductive ventures or activities,” the Vice-Chancellor added.
He warned that the university has zero tolerance for all forms of anti-social activities such as membership of secret cult groups, examination malpractices, sorting among others.
He emphasised that penalty for involvement in any of these activities is rustication from the University, noting that he will not waste time in sending away any student found culpable.
