Insecurity: We Support Farmers’ Vigilante Groups To Ward Off Attacks-AFAN

Following the quagmire farmers find themselves as a result of constant attacks from terrorists, the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), weekend, threw weight behind farmers taking the bold step to form vigilante groups to wade off attacks while on their farms.
Speaking with newsmen on the move by some farmers in Kaduna State to protect themselves from incessant bandit attacks in the state, the National President, AFAN, Kabir Ibrahim, said it has become imperative for them to protect themselves in order to produce food for Nigerians.
Ibrahim said: “They say necessity is the mother of invention, so, I am pleasantly surprised that it is only coming to light at this time that the farmers are forming vigilante groups to fight the terrorists preventing them from working the land.
“It will definitely go along way to restore security that will enable the farmers to produce sufficiently to provide food to the good people of Kaduna State.
“I encourage farmers to go about their legitimate activities and resist any attempt from any quarters attempting to prevent them from doing so.
“The farmers should and must protect themselves deploying any means necessary.”
However, he pointed that the current state of insecurity Nigerians are facing calls for more effort than before, because it is very frightening to see the decline of security of lives and property in the country.
“Nigeria needs security now more than ever before. I sympathise with the farmers and urge the security agencies to double their effort in restoring security.
“Agro Rangers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), need to do more to protect farmers.”
The farmers’ boss also expressed optimism that the move by farmers is in the right direction and would to an extent reduce the attacks they have suffered over the years.
“Proactive resistance against any form of inequity will definitely reduce it or even completely stem it”, he said.
However, on sustainability of the measure farmers are trying to put in place, the AFAN boss said, “It is not by any means sustainable but quite germane in the face of the near existential threat they are facing.”
On farmers having the victory over bandits with their quest to restore peace on their farms, he said, “No. I am not sure but I am hopeful.”

HoS Hails Fubara Over Provision of Accommodation for Permanent Secretaries

The Head of Service (HoS) of Rivers State, Dr. Mrs. Inyingi S. I. Brown, has commended Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS, for approving befitting accommodation for Permanent Secretaries in the state.
This commendation was contained in a press release made available to newsmen in Port Harcourt.
According to the Head of Service, Governor Fubara has continued to demonstrate uncommon commitment to the welfare of civil servants in Rivers State, stressing that such gestures underscore his people-oriented leadership style. She urged civil servants across the state to remain supportive of the governor’s administration in order to sustain good governance and effective public service delivery.
Speaking on behalf of the Body of Permanent Secretaries, Dr. Brown congratulated Governor Fubara on the occasion of his 51st birthday, describing him as “a Governor who leads by serving.”
She further praised the governor’s service-driven and people-centred leadership approach, noting that it has significantly contributed to institutional stability and improved efficiency within the state’s public service. Special appreciation was expressed for the approval of a befitting accommodation complex for Permanent Secretaries, which she said reflects the governor’s commitment to staff welfare and enhanced productivity.
As part of activities to mark the governor’s birthday, the Body of Permanent Secretaries announced the sponsorship of 329 Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) forms for indigent students across the state.
A breakdown of the initiative shows that 319 forms will be distributed across the 319 political wards in Rivers State, while five forms are allocated to non-indigenes and five forms to persons living with disabilities.
Interested applicants are advised to contact the Office of the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, for further details.
The Body of Permanent Secretaries wished Governor Fubara continued good health, divine wisdom, and greater accomplishments in his service to the people of Rivers State.

Allegation of Disrespect to President Tinubu Unfounded — Rivers Government
