Rivers United Not Under Pressure – Akuneto
Rivers United FC attacker Chijioke Akuneto, had said that the team is not under any pressure rather they are working hard because they have a target of winning the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) this season.
According to him, all his team members are doing their best knowing what they are targeting.
Akuneto, who scored the first hat-trick in NPFL this season against Akwa United on the final day of the first round of the season stated this on Sunday in an exclusive interview with Tidesports in Port Harcourt.
He expressed joy for being the first player to score hat-trick in the NPFL this season, and thanked God for giving him the strength to add history to his name.
“I feel excited.
First I want to thank God for my performance against Akwa United for scoring hat-trick in the NPFL this season.
It was a team work, one man cannot do it alone.
All the players are very determined because we have a target,” Akuneto said.
Akuneto, who has scored nine goals in the season explained that the mid- season break will not affect the team’s performance when returning from the break.
The pride of Rivers defeated Akwa United FC 4-1 to close the first round of the season and remain top of the log.
“As we are embarking on the two- weeks break, we are not going to relent because we have a target,” he stated.
He further explained that either him or Kayode may win the highest goal scorer award of the season adding that they are working has a team.
“As it stands now we do notneed any break but it depends on the coach,” he stated.
The pride of Rivers remains top of the log after playing 19 matches with 42 points.
