The Vice Chancellor of Rivers State University, Prof Nlerum Okogbule, has commissioned bus stands built by the 1998/99 Set of the school. He made the commendation while commissioning the bus stops at the university campus in Port Harcourt yesterday.
Chairman of the 1998/1999 Set, Mr Christopher A. Hart said there are several projects built by the 1998/99 Set of the alumni, as yesterday’s commissioning was the beginning of many more projects to come.
Hart said that the 1998/1999 Set of the university is doing very well, noting that two bus stops are built and sponsored by this Set of the university, one in front of the Post Graduate School of the university and the second located at the Faculty of Engineering, which he said are all world class, with durability assured. “It can be dismantled and re-assembled at will. It can boost security,” he said. According to him, the current Accountant-General of the State is a member of the 1998/99 Set of the university.
In response, the Vice Chancellor, Prof Nlerum Okogbule thanked the chairman of 1998/99 Set of the university and his team for embarking on such fantastic projects.
Okogbule encouraged other sets of the university, present or past to borrow a cue from the 1998/99 Set, adding that for any university to develop, the alumni must play vital roles.
He thanked the project engineer for doing a good job and wished members of the set well.
Okogbule promised to reflect the projects on the ICT, website and online for the public to see and noted that adequate protection of the projects will be given as he would not allow any student to post any bill on them.
The Vice Chancellor, therefore, encouraged other sets to synergise and toe similar line.
Okogbule was accompanied during the commissioning by the Registrar of the university, the National Chairman of the Alumni Association of the university and the chairman of 1998/99 set of the university, among other dignitaries.
