Wike Passionate About Rejuvenating Iconic Schools – Commissioner
The State Commissioner for Education, Prof. Kaniye Ebeku, has affirmed that the Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, is passionate about reviving iconic schools in the State.
In a statement signed and made available to The Tide by the Special Assistant on Media to the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ebeku stressed that the government was desirous of ensuring that iconic schools do not remain dilapidated and neglected.
Speaking at a reunion organised by Government Comprehensive Secondary School, Borokiri Class of 81 to commemorate its 40th Anniversary, Prof. Ebeku noted that the ongoing reconstruction works in the school and schools across the state showed the commitment and willingness of Governor Wike to revive moribund schools in the state and thus provide conducive learning environment for students.
He said: “if you came here a few years ago, you will find that this place was nothing to write home about. This place you are holding this event is a better place than what you would have found a couple of years back and it’s all thanks to Governor Nyesom Wike, (CON) who thinks that this iconic institution that has produced great array of people should not be allowed to rot”.
The education commissioner congratulated COBA Class of 81 on their 40th Anniversary, noting that the idea of coming together for a reunion was a noble one.
He said: “This indeed is a great moment for all of you who are of Class 81. The idea of coming together to mark this 40th anniversary is a noble one and in doing this you have brought back memories. Many of you may not have been able to meet yourself in a long time. I can see some feelings of nostalgia”.
In his remarks, Class 81 Captain, Barrister Christopher Green, lauded Governor Nyesom Wike, for the investments in education and for rejuvenating Government Comprehensive secondary school, Borokiri.
He said: “We want to thank his excellency, the governor of Rivers State, for his passion for education and as if is not enough, for deeming it fit to reconstruct the good old Government Comprehensive Secondary School, Borokiri”.
The event which held at the premises of the school in Borokiri had an expatriate teacher and other old boys of the school in attendance.
