NYG: Rivers Athletes Are In High Spirits -PRO
Rivers State contingent for the National Youth Games, holding in Ilorin, Kwara State, reached the state safely, to participate in the games.
Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the state Sports Council, Christopher Chioma, in a telephone interview, with Tidesports, said the state athletes are in condition, as the initial accommo-dation problem faced by early birds have been sorted out.
He said, Team Rivers athletes are in high spirits, saying registration and screening of athletes will commence tomor-row.
“We safely reached Ilorin, the capital city of Kwara State, about 5am on Monday morning, but accommodation became a problem initially, this is because the university students are still in session but this has been sorted out.
We were told the students are in their exams and they will soon round off within few days.
As I speak, our athletes are really in high spirits and good frame of mind to compete favourably and make the state proud,” Chioma said.
Chioma, who is also the festival secretary, than-ked the state Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, as he released funds on time to attend the games.
He further commended the Commissioner for Sports, Hon. Boma Iyaye and Permanent Secretary of the Sports Ministry, Sir. Honour Sirawoo, for facilitating the process.
