Fly Officer’s Cup: Clubs From Ghana, Cameroon To Participate
Clubs from Ghana and Cameroon have indicated interest in participating in the second edition of the Flying Officer’s Cup Football Competition.
The event’s organiser, Paul Edeh, who disclosed this to newsmen Wednesday in Abuja said that two clubs from the two countries were being expected to join 10 others from Nigeria.
Tidesports source gathered that the tournament, being organised in honour of the late Flying Officer, Tolulope Arotile, is aimed at helping female clubs prepare ahead of the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL).
According to him, the second edition will see an improved standard of play, as we have about 12 clubs that will be participating this year as against eight clubs last year.
“Also, the prize money will increase as well as the event’s organisation which will also improve,” Edeh, who is also chairman of Naija Ratels FC, which recently gained promotion to the Nigeria Women Premier League (NWPL), added.
The club’s chairman disclosed also, that Aguiyi Ironsi Cantonment sports complex in Abuja will be the venue of the event.
He expressed the hope that participating clubs would be able to utilise the opportunity of the competition to prepare well ahead of the new season.
It would be recalled that Bayelsa Queens were winners of the competition’s first edition which had a cash prize of N500,000.
