NECO Registrar Was Not Murdered -Police
The Niger State Police Command has debunked reports alleging that the Registrar, National Examination Council (NECO), Prof. Godswill Obioma, was murdered by unknown gunmen in Minna, the state capital.
The command said the story is totally false, untrue and a pure element of fake news.
The command stated this in a press statement signed by the Public Relations Officer, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, and made available to newsmen in Minna.
“The attention of Niger State Police Command has been drawn to a publication circulating in some sections of social media and national dailies that NECO Registrar Prof. Godswill Obioma was murdered by unknown gunmen in Minna. This story is totally false, untrue and a pure element of fake news.”
“It is important to state categorically that on 31st May, 2021 the Registrar/CEO National Examinations Council (NECO), Prof Godswill Obioma was rushed to National Hospital Abuja by his family members where he was later confirmed dead, after a brief illness,” the statement read.
He explained that the family of the deceased has also confirmed the incident and formally notified the management and staff of NECO of the demise of the Registrar.
The PPRO added, “members of the public are hereby urged to disregard the fake news and news reporters are advised to always verify their report before publication to avoid creating unnecessary panic and fear in the public domain.”
Meanwhile, the National Examinations Council (NECO) has refuted claims that its Registrar, Godswill Obioma, was assassinated.
NECO in a statement by its Director of Human Resources, Abdul Mustapha, yesterday said Obioma died in his sleep as a result of heart failure.
Mustapha stated that the son of the deceased had informed the management of the agency that his father was not assassinated.
