The Coach of the Rivers State Wrestling Association, Eli  Oyonumunede, has decried the absence of competitions in and outside the state  to test the abilities and current form of his athletes for sometime now.
He said this yesterday, in an interview with Tidesports at the team’s training ground situated at Niger Street Sports Venue, Old     Port Harcourt Township.
According to him, competitions are necessary to identify loopholes, improve on them and get better in any chosen career as athletes prepare for future and major engagements.
“ Actually, I am not happy, but what can I do?  All we do is train, train and train, but for now, no event, whether small or major to enable us  test their (athlete’s) new skills, techniques and form to see how well improved and fit they are”, coach Oyonumunede said.
He however, said that the team will continue to do their best to keep fit and always be in good shape ahead of any future assignment,
“We shall keep having our daily training sessions to prepare ourselves ahead  of any State or National event that might come our way, besides, we need to stay fit, as we don’t have to wait for invitation to start training”,  he said.
He urged his athletes to take their training seriously and exhibit discipline in all their dealings as they prepare and wait for invitation to participate in competitions.
