AFN Optimistic Of More Athletics
President of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria, Olamide George, has stated that he is confident of the qualification of Nigerian athletes in athletics to secure more Olympic qualification spots ahead of the World relays in Poland next month, as well as other athletics meet in the United States of America.
George speaking in a chat with Tidesports said the AFN has the support of the Federal Ministry of Youths and Sports, the Federal Government as well as the Nigeria Olympic Commission to prepare and succeed at the fast-approaching Tokyo Olympics later this year.
He added that he is sure the qualification pool of the AFN will increase from its current seven spots that have been sealed.
“We have the support of the Ministry, we have the support of the Federal Government, we have the support of the NOC to prepare our athletes for the Olympics, hopefully, Nigeria will have a better outing this year because the crop of athletes we are having now we have never had this opportunity, and we must maximise it and have good results in the Olympics.
So we are looking at our strength in the world relay which will come up in Poland and before Poland, we must train as a team and this is our strength, this is our area where I think we will qualify,” he said.
