Insecurity: Group Wants Ban Of Indicted Political Office Holders
The secretariat of the Niger Delta Dialogue has canvassed for legislations that will ban political officeholders indicted for criminality in the region.
At a media briefing on the presentation of report on insecurity in the Niger Delta, the group also called on government to fast track actions in containing the Ambazonia crisis in Cameroum with a view to checking its spill over to Cross Rivers State and other parts of the Niger Delta.
It also recommended the mapping and delineation of contested boundaries while skills acquisition programmes be developed for youths in the region.
Other recommendations include; enforcement and implementation of existing laws against criminality and illicit circulation of small arms and light weapons in the region.
Installation of crime surveillance system, reversal of reward system in favour of hardworking citizens (not concession to criminals), enforcement and enactment of laws to protect communities while job creation should be ensured through state specific industrial revolution.
The text for the briefing which was signed by the team leader, Media Advocacy, Niger Delta Dialogue, Igho Akeregha, called on communities to stop the practice of idolising cultists and militants with chieftaincy titles and positions of mobility.
While stressing the need for the strengthening of Alternative Disput Resolution Mechanism in the region, it warned international oil companies to desist from stocking communal crises through divide and rule tactics.
