C’River PDP Chieftain Throws Weight Behind Zoning
A Calabar-based philanthropist and People’s Democratic Party, (PDP) big wig, Mr. Ben Akak, has recommended zoning system as the only process that brings orderliness and allows peace to reign among contenders
He made this disclosure in an interview with newsmen at his residence in Calabar.
According to him, “zoning, if allowed to follow due process, will bring orderliness amongst politicians as well as provide a level playing ground for the contending senatorial district.”
He said that “zoning at all levels brings orderliness and maintains the needed peace in polity and scheme of things because it gives people the sense of belonging”.
Akak also called for a two party system in Nigeria, adding that “this will fasten Nigeria’s growth and development if properly practiced and adopted.
“The system will breed healthy competition; bring out the best leaders with quality skills to take Nigeria to the desired destination in terms of economic growth and development.
“Two party systems will help in boosting our economic growth and development as well as bring out the best leaders to govern us.
“The party system we have in place is more of a military creation, and it was as if we were not ready for democracy, but we are in it already we have to adopt modules that work for us”.
In furtherance to his illustration, he said “we must understand that what works in Congo democracy must not work in Nigeria. We need to copy if we must copy. Look at other countries practicing the same democracy and we must come together to fine tune it as a people as to what we want”.
He declared, “we were in a hurry for democracy and at the end have missed the basic ingredients and components of true democracy”.
In Cross River State we are really enjoying the zoning system and that has resulted to the absolute peace we are enjoying today”.
He lauded the administration of Governor Ben Ayade and called on Cross Riverians to support him to finish his tenure”, he said.
We voted for him, so we must give him all the support and cooperation.
On his signature programmes, he described them as achievable if all hands are on deck.
These projects when completed will change the story of the state and boost its economic growth”, he reiterated.
