Elections: Monarch Assures Abonnema Residents Of Peace
The Amayanabo of Abonnema Kingdom in Akuku / Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State, HRM, King Disrael Gbobo Bob-Manuel Owukori (VI) has debunked fears that some military operatives that invaded the community were on a sinister mission.
King Owukori who stated this in a statement obtained by The Tide urged those who fled the area following rumours of military attack should return home.
The monarch however explained that the hitherto tension there was due to revenge carried out by some persons in charge of the camp where they produce adulterated kerosene (kpo fire) at Obonoma community was destroyed by those military men that were shot.
Recall that two soldiers were reportedly shot dead by yet-to-be identified gunmen last weekend, leading to tension in the area with many residents fleeing for fear of another military invasion.
But King Bob-Manuel said, “Those that left the community in fear should return back because the soldiers did not come for us. The community is very peaceful”.
Meanwhile, the Akuku Toru chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has condemned the alleged killing of two soldiers by some unidentified gunmen at the weekend.
Chairman of the Party in the area, Hon. Ere Manuel in a statement expressed worry over the development, describing it as a calculated attempt by enemies of democracy to cause panic, fear and restiveness ahead of the Governorship and State Assembly election this Saturday
Ere therefore called on the security operatives to investigate the killings, rather than victimising innocent persons who have since been chased out of the community.
He expressed the readiness of his party to participate in this weekend’s Governorshiop and State House of Assembly elections; even as he called on the security operatives to carry out their duties professionally.
