Chairman Cautions On Politicisation Of Ex-LG Boss’ Death
As reactions trail the recent assassination of the former Chairman of Andoni Local Government Council, Hon. Monwan Owoh Etete by unknown gunmen, the Andoni Local Government Council has cautioned politicians and other segments of the society not to read political meanings into the incident.
The Council Chairman, Hon. Paul Lawrence Paul who handed down the warning in an interview with newsmen at Ngo shortly after a security meeting, urged those reading political meaning into the incident to wait for the security agencies to conclude their investigations.
Hon. Paul said that rushing to the press to allege that it was politically motivated would not allow the relevant authorities to get to the root causes of the matter.
He described the incident as a big blow not only to the council but the entire Andoni nation stressing that the council has commiserated with the immediate families and the entire Andoni nation over the incident.
According to him, the council is consulting with the security agencies, the Christian community, traditional institution, and all segments of the society with a view to ensuring that the incident does not repeat itself.
The Chairman said that the security meeting was not only in connection with the killing of the former Chairman, but to ensure that the Gubernatorial/House of Assembly elections is free, fair and peaceful in the area.
Hon. Paul also called on all sons and daughters of the area to come out and vote during this Saturday’s election as the area would be peaceful.
He also called on the youths not to allow themselves to be used to destroy Andoni, stressing that the time has come for them to surrender their guns and embrace peace in the interest of future generations.
