This was made known by the coordinator of the programme, Assisi Obomanu, while briefing sports journalists, on Tuesday, at the golf section of the Club, in Port Harcourt.
According to her, the event is being sponsored by Chief Ikenna Okafor, saying that the major objective is to discover hidden talents and revive swimming as a sport in the State.
“Our purpose to organise this classic swimming programme which is basically to discover hidden talents and revive swimming here in Rivers State.
We observed that in recent times Rivers State is nowhere in swimming, said consequently lost her glory, so with this I am optimistic that the spirit will be re-awaken” Obomanu said.
She further called on other agencies to promote and sponsor sports, particularly from the grassroots, saying that there are many sports that are dying because of poor funding and lack of sponsorship.
