Football Agents From Norway Hopeful Of Picking Players
Two football agents based in Norway, Frode Lia and Akinjimi Akinyemi, say they are hopeful of picking some players from Rising Stars Football Club for clubs in the European country.
Tidesports source reports that the two agents were involved in some sports-related activities and visited the Ondo State Sports Complex in Akure during the past week.
They watched a friendly match at the complex’s football pitch between the Rising Stars FC of Akure and Akure United FC as part of their activities.
Speaking with newsmen yesterday in Akure regarding the match, Lia and his Nigerian counterpart, said their mission in Nigeria was to recruit some players for clubs Norway.
Lia said Nigerian players’ impressive performances in Norway motivated him to come to Nigeria to gain first-hand information and recruit some players.
“We have a lot of African players in the Scandinavia that are doing well. So, Scandinavian clubs are open to having more of them.
“But we have to see them play more than one game before concluding. However, technically, they have been impressive,’’ he said.
Speaking on the agents’ visit and intentions, Tajudeen Akinyemi, the Chairman of Ondo State Football Agency (ODSFA), said the club was in a good position to provide some players for them.
“The scouts are here to see some talented boys to select and play in Norway.
“Rising Stars have some fresh legs that will be suitable for them. The boys have been doing well in all friendlies.
“This is a way to start generating revenue for the ODSFA,’’ he said.
Akinyemi, whose agency oversees the Ondo State Government-owned clubsides, assured that they were working towards repositioning the Rising Stars FC, saying the football agents’ visit was part of such efforts.
He said this would help to boost the agency’s internal revenue generation and reduce dependence on the state government.
The ODSFA chairman said the team was now in good shape ahead of its campaign in the new season of the Nationwide League One (NLO).
