GPHCDA Warns Against Building Without Approval
The Greater Port Harcourt City Development Authority (GPHCDA) has called on land developers and the general public to get clearance from the authority before embarking on any development.
Sole Administrator of GPHCDA, Amb. Desmond Akawor, who made the call while speaking to aviation correspondents at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa last Thursday also urged the public to obey the instruction given by the authority, to leave 150 meter from both sides of the Tam David-West Road.
He said that government has undertaken to build that road with street lights to make the area to be well planned as well as make it a signature area in Port Harcourt in terms of development.
According to him, the essence of leaving 150 meters both sides of the road is for special development within that axis.
“Government may have in plan that any structure that will be built within that 150 meters at both sides from the road must be a four story buildings, that is a development plan.
“Not a situation where somebody will just go there are build face me and I face you or anything. That will not be acceptable.
“That is why we have been doing a lot of publicity to tell people to leave that 150 meters from both sides of the Tam David-West-Obiri Ikwerre-Airport road, and some people are obeying.
“Do not buy land without clearing from the Authority. Come and clear from the development control unit and they chart the your plan to see that it does not fall within the pipeline or drainage.
“Once that is cleared, we will give a “No objection certificate and you will go and build. But when it falls or anyone build without clearance from the authority, we will relocate the structure for you, and you know what that means”, Akawor said.
The GPHCDA boss also said that his officers are always there and that demolition is going on, and that some structures have been marked for demolition.
Akawor, therefore, urged the public to always come to the GPHCDA office to get clearance as well as know the master plan of government, before they embark on any development.
