Rep Applauds Wike For Return Of Peace In ABOLGA
Member of the House of Representatives representing Abua/Odual/Ahoada East Federal Constituency, Rivers State, Hon Betty Apiafi, has hailed the peace in Abua/Odual Local Government Area of the State, saying that all stakeholders should continue to build on it.
Apiafi, in an interview with newsmen in Port Harcourt, recalled that her local government was enmeshed in various forms of crisis until peace was recently restored.
She commended the State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, for his peace drive in the state, adding that everyone should work with him to ensure the success of the amnesty offered repentant cultists and kidnappers in the state, stressing that security was a shared responsibility.
She said: “Governor Wike has done a fantastic job. In Abua-Odual council, we now have peace for the first time in a whole year. People now go about their business in my local government.
“The peace came with the collective effort of all stakeholders. No individual can pursue peace alone in the council. It is collective. Wike has been very active in achieving peace in the area.
“There was connivance with security agencies in the past to promote crisis in the area but all these are over. We had a thanksgiving, a night vigil in the local government. You won’t believe that after the night vigil, the devil struck, boys carried out attack in the area but today there is peace. Economic life has returned.
“People do funerals, marriages unhindered now. The governor’s amnesty programme is generally very successful in my council,” she said.
She urged everyone in the state to work for peace, stressing that every hand should be on deck to sustain the new found atmosphere of peace in the state.
According to her, nobody should take the atmosphere of peace in the state for granted, adding that everyone should contribute his or her own quota to ensure safety of all parts of the state for robust economic activities.
“We should never take the peace in the state for granted. The governor has done his best, let us all be part of the process of consolidating it. Let us all respect and build the peace that has come to the state,” she said.
