C’River Commissioner Bags Chieftancy Tittle
The Cross River State Commissioner for Education, Hon Godwin Ettah has been conferred with a Chieftaincy title of Obol Yoneneng of Umor Otutu by the Ugep Community in Yakurr Local Government Area of the State.
In his speech, the Chairman of the occasion, Air Vice Marshal Eko Osim (rtd) posited that the old saying that a prophet is not honoured in his domain has become archaic as Hon. Goddy Ettah has fulfilled all the qualities required of a man which earned him the honour.
He said the title “Yoneneng” meant hardwork, showing that the commissioner has demonstrated that hardwork pays and admonished the youths to borrow a leaf from him by putting in their best in all their endeavours so they will bring the kind of honour their son has brought to the community through hardwork, while praying for God’s wisdom on him in future endeavours.
Delivering his address, the Deputy Governor, Professor Ivara ESu who was at the ceremony in dual capacity said he has identified with Hon. Ettah for years, pointing out that his determination and zeal to succeed in every sphere helped him to steer the affairs of the Peoples Democratic Party to the envy of other party members.
On the issue of Institute of Technology and Management (ITM), Ugep, the Deputy Governor stated that as the pioneer chairman of the Governor’s committee on ITM, he will not allow what he started to fail, saying “now that education in the state is under the purview of their son, he believes he will make it better than what was originally conceived.” He wished Hon. Ettah many more years of good and fruitful service.
Performing the traditional capping rites on the commissioner, the Obol Lopon of Ugep, Obol Ofem Ubana Eteng, said the honour on the commissioner was well deserved, considering the many contributions he has made towards the growth and upliftment of the Ugep Community.
He averred that Hon. Ettah has used his different positions in government to better the lives of the youths and the less privileged.
