Association Lauds Wike Over Appointment, Dev Strides
The Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike has been commended for his pragmatic steps in the socio-economic transformation of the state.
Chairman, Caretaker Committee, Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities, Rivers State Chapter, Mr Roy Abije, made the commendation during the inauguration of a 12-man committee of the organisation held at the Ministry of Social Welfare in Port Harcourt recently.
Mr Abije hailed the governor on the appointment of Mr Damiete Albert-Miller as Commissioner for Social Welfare and Rehabilitation.
Abije also thanked the governor for his magnanimity in the automatic employment of six of their members into the state civil service.
He enumerated some of the challenges facing the body such as lack of incentives, mobility and general welfare of its members.
He called on the state executive governor to assist the body in order to enhance its efficiency.
In an address, the commissioner for social welfare who spoke through the Permanent Secretary, Lady Nemi-Iwo charged the committee to conduct election for the association within three months.
The Tide reports that Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Governor on Physically Challenged Matters, Mr Itekena Altraide witnessed the event.
