Egbeda Crisis: Youth Chairman Wants Peace Facilitation
The Chairman of
Egbeda Landlord Youths, Mr Franklyn Isiah has called on Jacarl Investment Ltd to hasten the peace process between it and its host community in order to have a congenial atmosphere for its investment.
Mr Franklyi Isiah, who stated this while chatting with The Tide in Port Harcourt at the weekend, expressed regrets that the peace process was slow and sluggish.
He explained that the peace committee set up to look into the conflict between Jocarl Investment Ltd and Egbeda, its host community had been submitted and added that it would require urgent attention as tension was already high in the community.
Mr Isiah also stated that the agents that acquired the farmlands of the community for Jocarl had dealt fraudulently with the community and pointed out that the fraud had exacerbated conflict between the community and the company.
He said unless the problem was properly addressed the rift between the company would continue to widen.
The youth leader called on the management of the company to address the issues raised urgently in order to pacify the community for the wrongs done to it over the years by Akor & Fidelis, the company that expropriated their lands.
It will be recalled that Egbeda community protested recently against what they termed illegal acquisition of their farmlands by Akor & Fidehs.
Following the protest, a committee was set up to find solutions to the crisis.
The Tide learnt that the committee had submitted its report.
