2015 AFCON: Quarter Final Ticket Delights Tunisia Coach
Tunisia coach Georges
Leekens was a happy man after seeing his side qualify for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations quarterfinals on Monday night.
The Carthage Eagles topped Group B with an unbeaten record following their 1-1 draw with DR Congo in Bata. The result also saw the Leopards advance ahead of Cape Verde, while Zambia finished bottom of the standings.
“We are pleased with the score as we are topping the group. I know we are not the best, the most beautiful, but we qualified. I am very happy,” said Leekens after the match.
“We played well in the first half and let go a bit in the second part. We had a fantastic first half. We wanted to score the second goal because we had three, four, five chances.
“In the second half, there were plenty of spaces with the Congolese taking risks and we were also a bit tired. Tunisia are happy, DR Congo are happy, Equatorial Guinea are happy, life is beautiful.
Tunisia will now tackle the host nation Equatorial Guinea in the last eight and Leekens admits it will be a tough challenge for his team.
“We know that Equatorial Guinea are a well balanced team with some pace upfront. It will not be easy because they had a fantastic performance yesterday, more than expected.
“I am very happy for their country but now it’s our game and we want to qualify. It’s going to be difficult with the crowd, but I am confident and always remain positive.”
Tunisia and Equatorial Guinea will clash in the second quarterfinal, set for Ebebiyin on January 31.
