A political pressure group
in Rivers State,  the Ogoni Democratic Movement (ODM) says it will not relent in its quest to ensure that an Ogoni person becomes the governor of Rivers State in 2015.
The National President of the group, Godwill Bazari who stated this yesterday during the inauguration of the executive of the group in Eleme Local Government Area, noted that the group has decided to take the destiny of the area in its hands to ensure that the area and Rivers State move forward.
Bazari said that the group would continue to appeal to the consciousness  of the people of Ogoni and other ethnic  nationalities in the state to see reason why the ogoni project must be realized in the next elections.
He regretted that since the creation of the state  in 1967,an Ogoni person has not been elected or appointed to the office of the governor, deputy governor, or Speaker of the State House of Assembly, stating that the group was ready to end the marginalization with the election of an Ogoni as state governor in 2015.
The ODM leader vowed that the group would not accept adoption of candidate, adding that ‘’if there should be any adoption, it should be an Ogoni candidate.
‘’ Ethnic groups that have less population like Opobo,Andoni have gotten better elective positions like deputy governor, Speaker, but Ogoni that controls four local government areas is yet to be elected to such positions. We demand our rights now”.
Calling on other groups in Ogoni and the State in general to support ODM’s Ogoni agenda, Bazari said,  “the Ogoni is united as ever before and we shall continue the struggle until our dream is realised’’,he said.
Also speaking at the inauguration, the Chairman of Eleme Local Government Area,Hon Njo Ngofa pledged the support of the Eleme people towards realizing the Ogoni 2015 project, as he vowed that his people would not betray the course of the Ogoni people.
Ngofa, who was represented at the occasion by the council’s Supervisor for Works, Hon Abusemi Ngei, promised that the Eleme people would ensure that somebody from Ogoni becomes the  next governor after Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi.
The group also visited the King of Eleme Kingdom, King Samuel Oluka Ejire, the Oneh-Eh Eleme X, who welcomed the group’s agitation and said his people would support the group to realize its dream.
