Sharks Beat Wolves 2-1
Sharks FC of Port Harcourt, yesterday at the Sharks Football Stadium, Port Harcourt opened their league with victory as they defeated hard fighting Warri Wolves 2-1 in a Week One game.
Home boy, Frederick Obomate scored the curtain raiser at the 9th minute, while George Amakiri converted a spot kick at the 14th minute, as Junior Osagie was brought down in the 18 yard box.
The visitors raised their game after they conceded the two goals and dominated the play.
Akeem Yakubu, ex-Sharks player scored at the 19th minute of play for the visitors before the end of first stanza.
On resumption of the second half, the game became more difficult as both side exhibited purposeful skills and played more of defensive game.
Few minutes into the end of the game, the visitors saw the back of their host net, but the centre referee disallowed the goal.
Generally, both sides played a purposeful football, but the visitors were more determined and aggressive.
Speaking shortly after the match, the Chief Coach of Sharks FC, Ere Dokubo, expressed joy over the victory, and gave thanks to God who has helped the team to win. “God has helped us to win our first league game which is very important, because we have gotten the three points at stake.
If I am to score them, I will give them 60% ,” Dokubo said.
Also speaking, the coach of Warri Wolves, Solomon Ogbe expressed sadness over the poor officiating, saying that the referee was biased in his decisions.
“I am surprised that the referee disallowed the goal scored by my player. The match of the season is a shame, I don’t like complaining in a situation like this because it will not change the score line,” Ogbe said.
