Residents Want Footbridges On Asaba-Benin Highway
Residents of Asaba, especially those living along the Asaba-Benin Expressway, have called on the government to construct pedestrian bridges across the dual carriage way.
Some of the residents, who spoke in an interview with newsmen in Asaba, said that many people had died through motor accidents while crossing the road.
A trader, Mr Philip Chuwudi, said that crossing the expressway had been a major challenge for pedestrians.
“Any time we are crossing the expressway, we always pray for God’s guidance. “The worst is when you are trapped in the pavement with two big lorries running at both sides of the road. All we do is just pray to God to help us,’’ he said.
Another trader, Mrs Evelyn Okocha, said that many lives had been lost on the expressway, appealing to the state Government to ensure that at least two pedestrian bridges were constructed along the express way.
“The government should construct at least two pedestrian bridges, one at Koka junction and the other at Summit junction to minimise the accident rate on the road.”
